Renewal of green card 2007/06/11 21:35 Karma: 0
Hello,
My name is Ela, I'm a student.I was browsing the internet and I found your website which seems to be very good in answering peoples questions.
My question is how long does it usually take to remove the conditions on the green card?Is it such a long process like they say?I applied for this in feb.I'm asking this because I don't know if I can apply for federal loan for school before I have the new card.
I apreciate the time you take to answer my questions.
All the best!
Ela

Hello Ela,

I am a little confused by your question.
You do not state how you got your green card and what condition you are talking about.
The only condition I know of is the one related to a marriage-based green card when the couple has been married less than 2 years.
The condition should be applied to be cancelled 3 months before the 2 year anniversary of the green card.

i am also confused by your statement about a federal loan. I though that you usually had to be a us citizen to get this kind of advantage..At least from what I experienced through other government help.
Tell me more about your situation, I might be able to find an answer.

Dear Marion,
Is the second time I'm trying to write a reply to your mesaage and I don't have a clue why it didn't go through.Or maybe it did but I didn't see it posted as a reply so that's why I believe they didn't go through.
I'll try again and I hope I'll be more clear in this message than I was in the first one.
I got my marriage-based GC in Feb'05 and I sent my petition for removal of condition in Jan'07 but they said they received them in Feb'07.I know I could have been sent them much earlier than that. I checked on the uscis webpage and they are processing now petitions recevied in Nov'06(for my case and center). Are this dates really acurate or I might get my GC earlier than the dates posted there? Why does it takes so long to process them?
Regarding the federal loan, all permanent residents are eligible for it.I got it for my first year of school but I don't know for the second year if I will get it. I'm saying this because on the application form they might ask for the expiration date of my GC. Some say that i might get it because I have a 1 year extension of my "old" GC.I'm a little worried about this so that's why I try to get some answers....
Thank you very much in advance.
All the best!
Ela

Hi ela,

I am sorry you has so much trouble getting to post on the forum!
I am not too sure what to answer to your question.
I believe that unless your application for removal of the condition status was received after your 2 year anniversary , there should not be any problem in any way. It is a question of days and you are not mentioning whether it was received post the due date or not.
I believe that the processing info that is on the website of the Uscis is only for new applicants not for renewal. renewal should be much quicker since you have already gone through the immigration process. If your paperwork is in order it should be no problem.
However, I also think that if the info you checked was regarding removal of status and not new application, then the info should approximately accurate.

Unfortunately,I will go through this process at the end of this year so I have not come accross this situation yet. Did you try calling uscis?

Please let everybody know on the forum how this ends, it will be useful for everybody.

Hello there!
I fianlly got my green card a week ago.It took almost 1 year to get it.Wow they work pretty slooooow.
In the summer they asked for more documents other than the ones I already submited and than I got a letter saying that I will be contacted by the local office to schedule the interview. There was no interview after all, I just got the GC in the mail.
It took forever but I git it!
Good luck to all that had apllied or will aplly for removal of conditions on the GC. I keep my fringer cross to be faster than mine!!!!!
All the best!
Ela
